Earlier this summer ICM hosted Health & Wellbeing Event in partnership with Suffolk Refugee Support. We are very proud to say that the event was a great success, with over 70 attendees, and around 100 participants overall!
Our main objective was to educate people about family wellbeing including available health services in Ipswich, organizations addressing some specific health problems, learning basic actions in case of emergency or urgent situations, and understanding difference between GP services, Pharmacies, and A&E. The day also provided an opportunity for all of our partners to reach out to groups of people diverse in race, ethnicity, age and gender.
We had 10 partner organisations who provided health and wellbeing related information to our learners and other clients, and an NHS team doing health checks. Dr. Dorset from Burlington Surgery even dropped by to join in the fun! We also had activities like games of Boccia and Tai Chi, both of which proved to be very popular, and one of our learners played piano for us throughout the day, adding a musical touch.
We had some great feedback from some of the health days participants; one client told us “I found the whole experience very informative”, and another said “I am going to change my lifestyle”.
Thanks to everyone who came along on the day, and to all the partner organisations involved; Community Dental Service, One Life Suffolk, ActivLives, Leeway, Welch Pharmacy, Suffolk Mind, Health Watch, and Health Outreach.
