We are extremely proud of Tia and Lola from ‘Girls, Where You At?’ for chairing the first ever long talk table discussion with and at the Pacitti Company a couple of weeks ago. The evening, ‘Here’s to Tomorrow’, was focused on how we can best work to support young people in Ipswich. The event had more than 40 attendees including those from local schools, Future Female Society, ISCRE, NEACO, Norfolk & Norwich Festival Bridge, Outreach Youth, Suffolk Libraries, Suffolk Mind, University of Suffolk, and was chaired by young people.
‘Young people’s behavior – like all human behavior – is driven by emotional needs which have to be met. Young people need healthy opportunities to meet emotional needs for community, to feel safe and in control of their lives, giving and receiving attention, status, achievement and meaning and purpose. Services, arts projects and policy decision-making has to be informed by this understanding if they are to be effective at providing safe and healthy opportunities for young people to meet those needs.’ – Suffolk Mind
We are incredibly proud of all the young people involved; they were brave, articulate and completely professional. The topics covered were moving and challenging but lots was learnt by all parties. It is something I would like to develop for our own young people through ICM.
The event was also covered by Look East. You can view the footage here:
