IO Radio appoints new Station Manger

Ben Scarlett joins IO Radio as Station Manager

Ipswich Online Radio (IO) is excited to announce the appointment of its new Station Manager Ben Scarlett who takes up the reins this month at IO’s base at South Street Studios. Ben replaces Angelle Joseph who has taken up a new role as Ipswich Community Media’s Diversity and Engagement Lead.

Ben comes with a wealth of experience in the private, public and third sector having worked locally and nationally for the majority of his adult-life, most recently with Suffolk County Council working directly with young people and refugees. A Film & Media graduate and former DJ, Ben has experience of working with organisations locally and nationally and has demonstrated a long-standing passion for improving access to opportunities for disadvantaged communities.

Of his appointment Ben says “I’m really grateful for the opportunity and excited to come and work for an organisation I’ve always admired. I believe IO is an extremely important resource for Ipswich, and my ambition is to help push this forward over the coming months. My thanks to my predecessor Angelle, who has done an incredible job increasing the visibility of the station. This year has been difficult for everyone, but I am astounded by the commitment of the staff and volunteers who have persevered in the middle of an ongoing pandemic. I look forward to getting started and helping to develop this platform for the local community.”

Angelle who is stepping down from the role says “I’m really excited to hand over the station manager role to Ben. His interests, passions and work rate match everything that surrounds the ethos of IO Radio. The team will become stronger and with my previous experience at IO and new job role at ICM, we can still get to work together on many things. He’s very friendly as well so be sure to pop him an email to say hello!’”

Operations Director, Nikki Packham says “We are delighted to welcome Ben to the IO team. He brings a unique mix of music, media and community engagement experience to the role, which we are confident will help IO to develop its local music offering and vital work in the local community”
