Local artist, and Smokehouse alumni, Bessie Turner was back in Suffolk last weekend to perform at the infamous Snape Maltings. As part of the Summer at Snape concerts, Out Loud Music CIC’s New Gen group were invited to attend the intimate gig, which took place in the Maltings’ new outdoor Dome stage.
The new venue was created in order to offer free outdoor events, celebrating the creative arts, over the summer months. For some of the group, this was the first time they had visited the historic venue, situated just outside of Aldeburgh in an area of outstanding natural beauty. For others, this was the first time they had been able to attend a live performance since the pandemic struck, which made the concert all the more special.
Dylan Palmer, a member of New Gen, had this to say about the evening: “I really enjoyed myself on Saturday. Bessie was amazing. Her performance gave me goosebumps and she came across as very genuine to the audience. It was so great getting to see the crew again, some old faces and some new they just radiated good vibes and were a good bunch to go with, I’d definitely go with them again. I found Snape to be very open and scenic. I’d heard of the location before most recently where Ed [Sheeran] had performed but It simply was a great evening and I’m very grateful I was offered the opportunity to watch Bessie perform”
This trip would not have been possible without the funding from Out Loud Music and the National Lottery Community Fund, and the volunteers of both Out Loud and ICM. A special thanks to Britten Pears for inviting New Gen and for putting on a wonderful event.
